The program brings writers to Iowa City for 10-month stays. There, they work on their writing projects, give lectures and readings, and meet with the American public and representatives of the American literary world. In Poland, the program was offered until 2004 and more than 40 writers, poets and literary critics took part in it, including many well-known ones, like Julia Hartwig, Paweł Huelle or Hanna Krall.
